As part of the AISB-2016 Annual Convention to be held at the University of Sheffield, on April 4-6th 2016. The convention is organised by the society for the study of Artificial Intelligence of Simulation of Behaviour (AISB)
The intensifying interest in cognitive science within performance practices and the growing interest in the embodiment and the enactive approach in cognitive science is the basis for this third symposium as part of the AISB 2016 annual convention.
We invite papers that explore topics including approaches to acting, movement studies, music and spectating through the post-cognitive approach to understanding the embodied mind-in-society, classified in the four branches of radical cognitive science – embodied, embedded, enactive and ecological (the so-called ‘4Es’).
Robert Harnish’s broad construal defined the domain of cognitive science incorporating the fields of cognitive psychology, cognitive neuroscience, computer science, linguistics and anthropology. We seek to explore how cognitive science might be explored and informed further by established and developing performance practices, thus offering a unique opportunity for a transdisciplinary discourse exploring the shared synergies between these particular fields.

• Learning embodiment
• Methodological responses to embodiment in performance training and practice
• Models of embodied acting
• Quantifying embodiment in teaching and performance pedagogy
• Identifying and training presence
• Cognitive dramaturgies
• Cognitive foundations of audience experience
• The performer’s awareness within the environment
• The phenomenological relationship between awareness and action, feeling and emotion, imagination and empathy
• The performer’s ‘self’
We request extended abstracts of no more than 500 words. Each extended abstract will receive at least two reviews. Selected abstracts will be published in the general proceedings of the AISB Convention, with the proviso that at least ONE author attends the symposium in order to present the paper and participate in general symposium activities.
The deadline for all abstracts is Monday, 15th February 2016. Notification of acceptance/rejection decisions will be made by 29th February 2015.
